Ornamental Composition from Bodoni Glyphs by Sung-Jin Kim

Using his favorite typeface, Bodoni, Korean artist Sung-Jin Kim created an ornamental composition entirely from the “extra” characters of the typeface, celebrating the beauty of its glyphs. He started by taking single glyphs and pairing them into slightly more complex elements. He then took those elements and combined them into slightly more complex elements. This three-tiered structure is illustrated in the image above. For inspiration, Kim noted that he “referred to 19C ornament composition in Europe and Arabic.”
